Noodle Showdown: Char Kway Teow vs Laksa vs Fish Ball Mee Pok

In the red corner! The uncontested! the majestic! The people's champion! Char Kway Teow!! A literal translation of "stir-fried" rice strips, a the combination of evil dark soy sauce, chili, belachan (shrimp paste), prawns, blood cockles, bean sprouts, egg, Chinese sausage, fish cakes and quite possibly unicorn blood, the explosion of flavours is undeniable.

In the blue corner! The exotic, The mind-blowing! The dark horse! Laksa!! Specifically Katong laksa! This is no stranger for being one of Asia's most craved noodle dish. Our Peranakan foodie friends should be very proud of this. With rice vermicelli, coconut milk, curry, an array of sea food, you can just imagine how this spicy soupy bowl of goodness will blow your hungry mind!

📍3 Gateway Drive #B2-06 Westgate, Singapore

In the green corner! The originator! The ubiquitous! The ever-lasting! Fish Ball Mee Pok!! Regarded as the most accessible "fast food" noodle, Singaporeans hold this bundle of curly joy close to their hearts. We have our Teochew friends to thank for giving us this. With the sauce consisting of chilli, oil, vinegar and sauce, you can enjoy it "dry" (tah in Hokkien) or with soup (tng) on the side. And of course a choice of minced meat and or a freshly made fish ball, the lasting cherry on top.
